Survive University – Comprehensive Resource Guide

2023

Curated resource guide designed to reduce friction for university students by centralizing academic, financial, and life resources.

Context

University students face overwhelming complexity when navigating academic requirements, financial aid, housing, career planning, and personal well-being resources. Information is scattered across multiple platforms, departments, and websites, creating friction at critical decision points. Survive University addresses this challenge by creating a centralized, curated resource guide that reduces cognitive load and helps students access the right information at the right time.

Process

The project began by researching common pain points students encounter when seeking university resources, from financial aid applications to mental health support. I mapped student journeys across different life stages (incoming freshman, transfer student, graduating senior) to identify critical information needs. The curation process involved evaluating and organizing resources across categories: academic support, financial resources, housing and life logistics, career development, and wellness services. Content was structured using clear taxonomy and navigation patterns that matched how students naturally search for help. The guide prioritized actionable information over institutional language, translating complex policies into accessible guidance.

Outcome

Developed a comprehensive resource guide that centralized essential university information into a single, navigable platform. The guide significantly reduced the time students spent searching for resources and provided clear pathways for common scenarios. By organizing information around student needs rather than institutional structure, the guide improved resource accessibility and reduced friction in critical moments. The project demonstrated how thoughtful information architecture and user-centered content design can transform institutional resources into genuinely helpful student tools.
