Marrow: Electric DT-100 Conversion
2025
Electric motorcycle conversion project, combining classic design with modern electric performance.
Context
The Yamaha DT-100 is a classic enduro motorcycle from the 1970s that captured the spirit of accessible off-road riding. This project reimagines the DT-100 for the modern era by converting it to full electric power while preserving its iconic silhouette and lightweight character. Marrow represents a hands-on exploration of sustainable transportation, classic vehicle preservation, and the intersection of vintage aesthetics with contemporary technology.

Build Documentation

Process
The conversion process began with comprehensive documentation of the original DT-100, creating detailed 3D models to plan component placement and frame modifications. The electric powertrain was designed around a hub motor system paired with lithium battery packs, optimized for the bike's lightweight frame and intended use case. Custom fabrication work included battery enclosures, motor mounting solutions, and integration of modern controls while maintaining the original aesthetic. Each phase of the build was documented through photography and 3D visualization to capture the transformation from combustion to electric.
Outcome
Marrow demonstrates that classic motorcycles can be thoughtfully converted to electric power without losing their essential character. The project serves as both a functional vehicle and a case study in sustainable restoration, showing how vintage machines can be preserved and adapted rather than abandoned. The 3D models and documentation created throughout the process provide a blueprint for similar conversion projects.
